This calculator estimates the annual reduction in CO2 emissions from green energy projects.
Calculator Instructions Enter the “Installed Capacity” of the facility (wind, solar, hydro, biomass, etc.) on the top of the table presented below in MWs; Enter the “Working Hours” of the facility for each year by the end of year 2012; Enter the “project lifetime” in years; Select the emission factor from the drop down menu “Emission Factor”; then The “Total Tonnes” of annual CO2 emissions will be displayed in the right side of the table. According to Electricity Emission Factors Review by MWH S.p.A., November 2009, the emission factor is defined as 807kg/MWh through the end of year 2012. According to the EBRD instructions, the emission factors for year 2012 will remain the same for the future years (during the project lifetime).
According the Bulgarian legislation (the Regulation №18 as of 12.11.2004y "Energy Performance of Buildings and Sites") the reference value for the emission factor (the coefficient of the ecological equivalent of energy sources and energy) is 683 kg/MWh.
The emission conversion factors associated with the Kyoto Protocol’s two flexibility mechanisms (the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI)) are taken into account in these calculations.
